The show must go online

York Early Music Festival 2020: Music for our time

We were mid lockdown and the news of projects affected by the Coronavirus began to filter through. First came the postponement of an already sold out Beverley Early Music Festival which was then subsequently moved to 2021. Then came the cancellation of the York Early Music Festival. This was no surprise as the coronavirus took its toll on many businesses and events.

Taking the York Early Music Festival online

Undeterred, we set about taking the York Early Music Festival online. We had already recently re-branded the National Centre for Early Music and before lockdown, work had begun creating a new website. The new website was to launched with the addition of a live streaming facility.

The new NCEM website has an online auditorium with paid entry to the broadcast.

Work also involved creating the branded video titles broadcast during the stream – https://www.ncem.co.uk/earlymusiconline/

The festival already had world wide recognition and this was a chance to connect with that audience. The online festival gave us the opportunity to reach a world-wide audience online.

Creating an online auditorium

We developed an online auditorium that would facilitate the broadcast of the festival and provide a cost effective paid entry system. Working with the existing box office system, producing a solution that would integrate seamlessly.

The solution looks at the whole website journey. Starting at the home page and the selling of tickets, using a system already familiar to the NCEM audience. The audience is then guided to their virtual seats ‘online’ with a downloadable step by step guide to enjoying the online festival.

Within hours of launching, ticket sales demonstrated global interest in the York Early Music Festival Online.

Keeping the NCEM brand alive, keeping the music alive in these difficult times!
